Day 11 -- Las Vegas (Day 2)

This morning started out in a perfect way--we picked up Louise at the airport. It was wonderful to have her with us again. After a brief return to the house, we headed out on the Boulder Highway to the Hoover Dam. We had fun on the dam road. We missed the dam tour, but had a dam good time walking around. The dam heat started getting to us, but we had a wonderful dam time. (This could go on forever, and it did...)

Tom told us about the time he worked as a high scaler, and Dick conquered his fear of heights and walked the length of the dam, taking pictures from the top. We were amazed at the low water level. After enjoying the views from the dam, both on the Nevada side, and the Arizona side, we drove back to Boulder City for a quick lunch at the Dairy Queen. (That kid you see with us in the picture of the Dairy Queen is Louise.)

Later that day we drove to downtown Las Vegas. We were able to park our bikes for free at the Harley Davidson Cafe. They would be carefully guarded. We walked and walked and enjoyed the bright lights. None of us gambled at all, but Shirlene tried to make a 50 cent phone call and when there was no answer, got back $1.00! She decided to quit while she was ahead--no more phone calls.

We joined the Morrill family at the Grande Lux in the Venetian for a splendid dinner. Good food, good friends. After dinner we strolled a bit longer, retrieved the bikes (still in good shape), and went home to rest up for tomorrow. We'll leave Las Vegas, heading for some cooler weather at the feet of the Sierras.
