A new adventure is about to unfold. Shirlene and I are nervous, excited, and yet a little saddened that we will be traveling without our good friends Tom and Louise Andersen. They seem to think that their daughter Angie's wedding this weekend is somehow more important than a motorcycle trip. I guess we'll just have to go it alone.
With a prayer for safety and a kiss for luck, we fired up our bikes and pulled out of Fortuna in the early afternoon. Our destination for the first leg is south to Citrus Heights, just east of Sacramento. We look forward to seeing our grandkids Abby and Joey (Oh yeah, and their parents, Hillary and Jason, too.)
We have taken this route many times, the last few have been on our bikes, but we never get tired of traveling through the redwoods. We are so fortunate to live in such a beautiful area. In fact, it is such a beautiful area we see all kinds of people coming to visit. This coming weekend is the annual gathering of mellowness -- Reggae on the River. We are glad we are traveling through on Thursday, and not Saturday.

We stopped for a quick break in Willits. This picture could appropriately be called, "Wilting in Willits" It is verrrrrrrrrrrrrry hot. |
We moved south out of the Redwoods into the wine country of Mendicino, then turned on Hwy 20 to travel through the oak country past Clear Lake, stopping for a short rest at Lucerne, America's Switzerland. Shirlene cannot remember Switzerland ever being this warm!

Granzella's was a welcome sight! It is our regular stop on our way to Sacramento, and it did not disappoint this time either. The sandwiches were great, the drinks refreshing, and the air conditioning awesome!

We made It!!! The best reward possible was waiting for us in Citrus Heights -- Abby and Joey! (Oh, yeah, Hillary and Jason were there, too) Abby is learning to swim and showed us the progress she has made. Joey patiently waited on the steps at the pool, occasionaly putting his head under the water. Both were anxious that "Harley Grandma" and "Harley Poppa" watched. We will rise early in the morning to beat the heat and head for the high country of Nevada.
