Port McNeill, BC to Victoria, BC

Rain!!!   We knew it was coming, but we felt that it wouldn't hit for at least another four hours.   We were wrong and now we face the longest part of our island travels in the middle of the storm.

After we gas up, I'll put the camera away.   We have a serious ride ahead of us.   We've decided that since it's bad weather and wouldn't make sight seeing very fun, we will ride all the way back down to Victoria and stay an extra day there.   If luck is with us, we should make Campbell River by 1:00... just in time for lunch at a place that we know serves the best salmon and chips.

Luck was with us and we made it to Campbell River for lunch.   Luckier still, the rain stopped.   I remember some time ago a woman telling her children when she saw us ride in under an awning at a motel in Illinois, "Real bikers ride in the rain."   I thought to myself now as I did back then, "Yeah, real dumb bikers ride in the rain."   Anyway we settled in for the best salmon and chips at "Dick's".   We rested for about an hour and then headed for Victoria.

On the road to Victoria, we encountered an convoy of World War II vehicles and reenactors.   We thought it was a good time to rest, so we pulled over and watched the parade.

We finally reached Victoria in the late afternoon.   Cold and damp, we checked into our hotel and took a well earned nap.   We feel at home in Victoria.   Later that evening, we walked over to our favorite pub... only to find that it had gone out of business.   Devastated, we went in search of a new pub that could serve us a mean French onion soup with some roast beef and Yorkshire pudding.   We found it at about 9:00 that evening.   We were pretty tired, but the comfort food was a welcome finish to a long day.
