Day 3 -- to Spanish Fork, UT

It's Mother's Day, and Shirlene can't think of a better way to celebrate than to think about her two wonderful kids who are now out on their own, and then get on with the ride, relishing the freedom. Dick and Shirlene went to church in Elko where they heard a wonderful program honoring Mothers. All the mothers were given a beautiful flower, including Shirlene. Tom was able to visit with some dear old friends who live in Elko. By 11:00, it was apparant the weather was changing! The sun was shining, the sky was blue, and it was delightfully warm. We decided to press on to Utah. Dick and Shirlene wanted to give their mothers a hug and kiss for mother's day...and a ride on the Harley would be a fun gift.

We stopped at the top of Pequop pass for a picture. Shirlene has experienced car trouble a couple of times on this pass and always considers it a triumph to reach the top without problems. Today it was total victory!

Stopping above Wendover we looked out at the Salt Flats and the very straight line to Salt lake City. We thought the ride would be quick, and it was. Before we knew it, we were at the Great Salt Lake, calling Moms to make sure they would be home to welcome us.

Our first stop after braving the crazy Utah drivers on I15 was Orem to visit Shirlene's Mom, Darlene, who lives with Shirlene's sister and her family. Darlene was reluctant at first to ride, but was soon sweet talked into a short ride around the block. We then completed the day's journey in Spanish Fork the home of Millie and Clyde Hicken. Millie is Dick's Mom, and she was treated to a Mother's Day ride on the Harley. We made biker chicks of two sweet ladies today, finished a big leg of our trip, and made plans for a few day trips from our new home base in Spanish Fork, Utah.
